Carrie Yunker, of Peoria asked the online community to help her raise $4,200 that will be used to cover her daughter Nicole Easton's everyday expenses for the next several of months while she recovers from her injuries.
In a post on the fundraising site, Yunker explained that her daughter just graduated from high school, had a good job and had recently moved into her first home 'as an adult' when disaster struck.
One afternoon, Yunker worte, her daughter and her roommates 'were being crazy young adults' and decided to leap from the roof of their house into the backyard pool. 'I'm surprised that Nicole would even try something like that,' the mother said. 'She's not the very daring type.'

In the video of the incident posted by Yunker on YouTube, her daughter, dressed in a pink bikini, could be seen nervously laughing and squealing in terror on the roof alongside another girl as she is being incited to jump by her boyfriend, who had already taken a leap into the pool moments earlier. At the last second, Nicole hesitated and missed the pool, instead landing with a loud thud on the concrete deck, breaking both her feet. The accident landed the girl in a wheelchair, and she is expected to be disabled for the next six weeks, according to her mother.

Yunker then went on to explain that her daughter not being able to work for a while means that she would be unable to cover her share of the rent and bills, which could result in her losing her home. The mother gave a breakdown of her daughter's expenses, writing that she will need $1,800 for rent for half a year and $2,400 for expenses like food, toiletries, phone and utilities.

Even the most love sick Romeos need an afternoon with the boys. Prince Michael Jackson has been repeatedly spotted out with girlfriend Remi Alfalah over the past few days but on Tuesday as the King of Pop's son was spotted out with his guy friends.
Even the most love sick Romeos need an afternoon with the boys. Prince Michael Jackson has been repeatedly spotted out with girlfriend Remi Alfalah over the past few days but on Tuesday as the King of Pop's son was spotted out with his guy friends.
The 16-year-old and his buddies spent some time in Beverly Hills grabbing a pizza slice for lunch.
Also along for the sunny day out were Prince's bulky bodyguard and a film crew for a mystery project shooting footage of the teen and his entourage. Jackson looked just like any other high schooler enjoying the summer break. Only the thin microphone sticking out of the neckline of his top revealed that the shaggy-haired boy might be a budding celebrity.
Even the most love sick Romeos need an afternoon with the boys. Prince Michael Jackson has been repeatedly spotted out with girlfriend Remi Alfalah over the past few days but on Tuesday as the King of Pop's son was spotted out with his guy friends.
Currently attending privately-run Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California, where he met fellow student Remi, Jackson has refreshingly escaped the intense spotlight that haunted his famous father during the latter years of his life.
The freedom from overwhelming fame has meant that the young lovebirds have been able to enjoy sweet and simple dates such as enjoying ice creams in a shopping mall, but on their latest night out Jackson upped the stakes and took his girl for a romantic Italian dinner.

3 Superfoods You Should Know (But Probably Don't)

Superfoods — the word just conjures up those wonderful health foods that seem to have mystical powers. Well, if they don’t, they SHOULD!
Supefoods are just that – they're SUPER! They typically pack a big punch in a somewhat small dose; think goji berries, cacao, bee pollen and spirulina. These are things you definitely don’t want to consume by the cupful!
While health food stores are filled with various “new” superfoods, don’t think for a minute this is some sort of fad. Superfoods have been around for many years, and while there seems to be an endless rotation of what's coined the newest and best superfood around, try not to let the other tried and true items fall by the wayside. I’d like to introduce you to three “old-school” superfoods. Each of these had gained popularity as far back as the 60s and definitely should earn a place among your superfood collection.
1. Brewer’s Yeast
While every raw foodist touts the taste and benefits of nutritional yeast, there's another yeast that once held the crown as the most nutrient-rich and beneficial. While brewer's yeast is typically thought of as a byproduct of beer brewing, there are brands presently that are grown on sugar beets
Why you need to try it: This healthy yeast strain — Saccharomyces cerevisiae — is commonly recommended by holistic practitioners to fight against candida overgrowth. Rich in protein, fiber, B vitamins and minerals, it can cure skin conditions, promote hair growth, increase energy, balance blood sugar and provide good bacteria to keep your gut healthy!
2. Molasses
Who can beat this sugary sweet, thick, tar-like substance? Super sweet and low glycemic, molasses is made from processing sugar canes into table sugar!
Why you need to try it: A true superfood, molasses is chock full of vitamins and minerals, namely iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium. Its many benefits can include healing acne, acid reflux, anemia, regulating menstrual flow, colitis, cyst reduction, tumor reduction, dermatitis, hair damage, eczema, psoriasis, varicose veins, ulcers, anxiety, constipation and joint pain. Be sure to look for unsulphured blackstrap molasses.
3. Lecithin
While consuming a fatty substance found in plants typically isn’t high on most people’s list, this is one that you should think about including. ASAP.
Why you need to try it: Protecting the liver, balancing cholesterol and emulsifying fat is just the top of the list; it also helps absorb nutrients and builds a healthier digestive system. Lecithin is rich in EFAs, so it promotes smooth, glowing skin. Most importantly, it may help improve healthy brain function, and is commonly used to treat memory disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer's. After all, our brains contain 30% lecithin!

Now that you’re acquainted you with some of the first superfoods around, I hope I can entice you to give them a try with one of my favorite recipes — my Semi-Old School Smoothie
To your blender add:
  • 1 Tbs. whole flaxseeds – turn blender on high to grind
  • 1 Tbs. brewer’s yeast
  • 1 Tbs. non-GMO lecithin granules
  • 1 Tbs. unsulphured blackstrap molasses
  • 1 serving vegetarian protein powder
  • 1 Tbs. tocotrienols (members of the vitamin E family)
  • 1.5 cups frozen berries
  • 2 cups water
As simple as can be — this miracle burns fat, balances blood sugar, gives you 50% RDA of iron and is high in antioxidants. Definitely my kind of superfood smoothie!

Are You Putting These 18 Toxic Chemicals On Your Body Every Day?

Want to detoxify your personal care routine, but don't know know where to start? Read the labels, and steer clear of products with these noxious chemicals!

DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine)

These three hormone-disrupting chemicals that can form cancer-causing agents — research indicates a strong link to liver and kidney cancer. They are commonly found in shampoos, soaps, bubble baths and facial cleansers.

Phthalates and Parabens

Banned by the European Union in 2003, phthalates and parabens are a group of chemicals commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. They keep hairsprays sticky and bacteria and keep fungus out of things like nail polish and perfume. Both have been shown to be carcinogenic and particularly linked to breast cancer.

FD&C Color Pigments

Most FD&C color pigments are made from coal tar and studies show that almost all of them are carcinogenic. These are found in products such as foundation or eyeshadow. Many of these pigments cause skin sensitivity and irritation, or even oxygen depletion in the blood. FD&C Red #4 is no longer available for use in foods because of a known threat to the adrenal glands and urinary bladder.

Fragrance

“Fragrance” is a euphemism for nearly 4,000 different ingredients. Most “fragrances” are synthetic and are either cancer-causing or otherwise toxic. Exposure to fragrances has been shown to affect the central nervous system. “Fragrances” are found in most shampoos, deodorants, sunscreens, skincare and body care products.

Imidazolidinyl Urea and DMDM Hydantoin

These are formaldehyde donors, which means that they are derivatives of the formaldehyde, which is what scientists and morticians use to preserve corpses and body parts. (Remember dissecting frogs in school?) These chemicals are linked to allergies, chest pain, chronic fatigue, depression, dizziness, ear infections, headaches, joint pain, loss of sleep, and can trigger asthma. They can weaken the immune system, and, surprise surprise, cause cancer. Imidazolidinyl Urea and DMDM Hydantoin are used in skin, body and hair products, antiperspirants and nail polish.

Quaternium-15

Quarternium-15 commonly causes allergic reactions and dermatitis, and breaks down into formaldehyde. Quarternium-15 is used as a preservative in many skin and hair care products.

Isopropyl Alcohol

Isopropyl Alcohol is used in hair color rinses, body rubs, hand lotion and aftershave lotions as well as in your car’s antifreeze and shellac! Scientists believe that it has the ability to destroy intestinal flora, leaving the body’s major organs open to parasites, and thus to cancers. Beyond attacking the intestinal flora, isopropyl alcohol can cause headaches, dizziness, mental depression, nausea, vomiting, and coma.

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is a petroleum derivative that coats the skin like saran wrap, which prevents the skin from breathing, absorbing and excreting. It also slows the skin’s natural cell development, causing the skin to age prematurely. Note that baby oil is 100% mineral oil – and 100% bad for your baby’s sensitive skin.

PEG (Polyethylene Glycol)

PEG’s are most commonly used in spray-on oven cleaners and in many hair and skin products. PEG’s main fuctions are to dissolve oil and grease. Thus, on the body, they take the protective oils off the skin and hair, making them more vulnerable to other toxins.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol is the active ingredient in antifreeze. It is also used in makeup, toothpaste and deodorant. Stick deodorants have a higher concentration of PG than is allowed for most industrial use! Direct contact can cause brain, liver and kidney abnormalities. The EPA requires workers to wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles when working with it. And yet, the FDA says we can put it in our mouths!!

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate are the most toxic ingredients on this list. When used in combination with other chemicals, they can form nitrosamines, a deadly class of carcinogen. They are used to clean engines, garage floors and at car washes. AND still the most popular ingredients for makeup, shampoo and conditioner and toothpaste. Exposure causes eye damage, depression, diarrhea and many other ailments.

Triclosan

This is a synthetic antibacterial ingredient that has been compared to nothing less than Agent Orange. The Environmental Protection Agency registers it as a pesticide, highly toxic to any living organism. It is also classified as a chlorophenol. In other words, it is in a cancer causing chemical class. Triclosan disrupts hormones, can affect sexual function and fertility and may foster birth defects. Triclosan has been linked to paralysis, suppression of the immune system, brain hemorrhages, and heart problems. It's widely used in antibacterial cleansers, toothpaste, and household products.

Talc

Talc has been linked to ovarian and testicular cancer. It can be found in makeup, baby and adult powders and foundation.

Petrolatum

Petrolatum is a petrochemical that contains two well-known carcinogens: Benzo-A-Pyrene and Benzo-B-Fluroanthene. As you might imagine from a petroleum derivative, petrolatum prevents the skin from breathing and excreting.
