Man, 24, arraigned for allegedly assaulting his step-mother








the court premises on Tuesday when he came to perfect bail for his brother, Lawal Abduraham who was arraigned on June 22 for the same offence.
 Mohammed, who lives at No. 13, Adekanbi St., Mile 12, Lagos, is facing one count charge of assault. He, however, pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Cpl. Adekemi Adeniran, told the court that Mohammed committed the offence on May 13 at No. 13, Adekanbi St., Mile 12, Lagos, at about at 9:00 a.m.
Adeniran said that the late father of the accused gave two rooms in his house at Mile 12, Lagos, to the complainant because she had two children for him.
"But the accused detested her getting close to the property, because the complainant has re-married.
"Anytime she returns from an outing, the accused will assault her by beating her and this caused bodily harm," the prosecutor said. The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 of the Criminal Law stipulates three years imprisonment for the offence.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, granted the accused N50, 000 bail, with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till July 10 for mention.
